Code for Sustainable Homes

Code for Sustainable Homes is an environmental assessment rating method for new homes which assesses environmental performance from pre-assessment to design stage and post construction stage using objective criteria and verification. The Code has a scale level of 1-6, level 6 being the highest achievement of 'zero carbon'.

The Code sets minimum standards for energy and water at each level. The rating a home receives depends on how it measures up in the nine category levels below:-

  • Energy and CO2
  • Water
  • Materials
  • Surface Water Run–off
  • Waste
  • Pollution
  • Health and Well-being
  • Management
  • Ecology
